Uganda
51 percent of Ugandans lack access to safe water and 82 percent do not have access to improved sanitation facilities. At the same time, access to financial services in Uganda has improved significantly over the last decade, mostly driven by the expansion in mobile-money services.
Residents get water from open source The only borehole in Ajia-Arua district Kabale district
The report was based on the evidence gathered in Aya parish, Ajia sub-county where residents walk long distances to access clean and safe water.
Ms Delefina Oleru, resident of Langi village, Aya parish said she fetches three jerrycans of water every day in her daily trips of about three kilometres to a borehole point at Langi primary school.
She said the three Jerrycans of water are not enough in her family of five people, a reason she also opts for a nearby stream for drinking water and other domestic works in case she gets tired of walking the long distance.
But the situation may be different when the borehole breaks down and gets congested thus forcing many to take longer hours at the point
South Sudan
Our first WASH campaign and assessment in Juba, South Sudan in March 2017 shows most communities living in Internal Displaced Camps and many parts of South Sudan dont have access to clean water, the available boreholes are salty and most communities opt for getting fresh water from River Nile and drink it without boiling posing great risks to their health. Some of these were transported by trucks to be allocated to each lot in IDP camps
